Good news for bad spouses: prenuptial agreements may soon be worth the paper they're printed on. Sir Terence Etherton, chairman of the Law Commission, has indicated that prenups may become legally binding within a couple of years. That won't solve the biggest hurdle, when it comes to prenups, though: how best to broach the subject to your affianced?
Talking of prenuptuals, it's just hours until the wedding of Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin. Ordinary couples may be feeling the pinch, but the words “crunch” and “credit” do not exist in this pair's vocabulary. We only hope that they don't prove the first law of celebrity weddings: the success of the marriage correlates in inverse proportion to the financial cost of the wedding.
If they are part of a vast right-wing conspiracy, their timing is hopeless. The week after Hillary Clinton conceded defeat in the race for the Democratic nomination, two names from her husband's scandal-ridden past have re-emerged.
Gennifer Flowers and Paula Jones are trying to cash in on their stories through a website called Two Chicks Chatting, where viewers can watch clips of the pair discussing their experiences.
Flowers was the lounge singer who had an affair with Bill that, she said, lasted 12 years. He said that it was just one night. Paula Jones was the girl from Arkansas whose accusation of an unwelcome sexual advance in a hotel room triggered the investigation that would eventually unearth the existence of Monica Lewinsky.
Paula says the website is “a way we can get our story out there in our own words, without someone making their own interpretations or corrections”. The clips can be downloaded for just $1.99 each. That's right, just $1.99, or one of our British pounds, to hear “Paula and the President's Penis” or “Gennifer's Story and the Presidential Penis”. Roll up, roll up. These stories are only 15 or 16 years old.
