Fawcett’s flicked and sprayed hair upstaged her acting on Charlie’s Angels in the mid-Seventies. Madonna adopted the disco-flick in her video for Hung Up.

The Diana

Diana wore a flicked and layered take on the Purdey for her wedding in 1981. She created a sensation in 1995 with her gel-slicked hair.

The Rachel

Made famous by Jennifer Aniston on Friends in the mid-1990s, this multi-layered style came about by accident when a new hairdresser cut it shorter than intended.

The boho mane

Sienna Miller and Kate Moss both sported blonde “bed hair” in 2004 – think Brigitte Bardot crossed with a gap year traveller.

Agyness Deyn’s bleached crop

The Mancunian model du jour had her tresses cropped by hairdresser Sam McKnight on a Vogue shoot, because she was “dying to get the hair off”.
