Atmosphere and clientele: Waterfall Spa is a fabulously indulgent ladies-only day spa. With no mention of detox or diet and no gym in sight, it’s most definitely focused on pampering its clients. Enormous beds with beaded curtains are available to sleep off last night’s excesses or simply while away the hours. And there is no need to watch the time – the ever-friendly staff tracked our spy down when it was time for her treatment.

Treatments: Our spy luxuriated in a Deluxe Pedi with foot mask, £70; a Heaven Essence Aromatherapy Massage (about an hour long, with oils tailored to our spy’s requirements), £75; and, finally, a Rose, Raspberry and Cocoa Facial, £75, which were all amazing and very soothing. The day was interspersed with a visit to the steam room, which invigorated with aromatherapy oils, the Norwegian Tropicarium (similar to a sauna but without the searing temperatures, so gentler for delicate skin) and the hydrotherapy pool to massage away our spy’s tensions.

Highs: The facilities are super-extensive.

Lows: The overly technological lockers didn’t work.
