In honour of Father’s Day, Salon Spy popped across to Milan for the Hotel Principe di Savoia’s ultra-luxe new Football & Facial package. The two-night jaunt starts with a spot of pampering – a Saturday afternoon facial at Club 10 on the top floor of the hotel, complete with pool and Turkish bath – while Mrs Spy enjoys a personal shopping consultation. Handsomely buffed, it’s on for an exquisite dinner in Acanto, the hotel’s restaurant. Then, on Sunday afernoon, there are two VIP tickets to watch Inter Milan play at the San Siro.

Clientele: Part of the Dorchester Group, the Principe is the grand old lady of Milan’s hotels, and international CEOs pound Club 10’s treadmills.

Treatments: An hour-long facial cleansing sloughed off all of the post-flight grime. It was followed by a 45-minute massage in one of five scented treatment rooms: initially disturbingly gentle – far gentler than most London pummellings – the masseuse built up a head of steam so efficiently that I felt my neck relax for the first time in months.

Staff: Despite the language barrier, the beauty consultants were warm and assiduous.

Highs: That post-massage glow and peerless Italian food.

Lows: The cost – €3,000.
