Do the scientific claims on your cosmetics add up?
This product was suggested by reader John Reeves. His friend recommended it, he says, but can it really help to banish frown marks and worry lines, transforming a hassled man into a smooth-skinned Adonis?
They say “Combats the effects of modern living on the skin.”
We say This cream's anti-ageing complex contains antioxidants, peptides and white lupin.
Let's start with the antioxidants, which are said to help protect the skin from sun damage. The sun's rays can destroy the skin's main structural proteins, collagen and elastin, resulting in wrinkles. However, there is a lack of evidence to show that antioxidants penetrate the skin deep enough to have a tangible effect.
As for the peptides and white lupin, a study of nine women, published earlier this year, suggests that they may help to increase the concentration of collagen. Although this sounds promising, the study didn't assess whether this translated into a reduction in the appearance of lines. The cream contains SPF15, which will prevent further wrinkles forming.
Feelgood factor Silky texture, subtle fragrance. Popular with men and women
Worth it? It won't transform you into a doppelgänger of tween sensation Zac Efron, but it may help to smooth fine lines. The deep wrinkles, however, are there to stay. Sorry.
