Atmosphere: Motcomb Street in Knightsbridge is like a very chic version of your average high street. All the shops along it are universally lovely (Rococo for chocolates, Christian Louboutin for shoes, the most upmarket Waitrose in Britain), and Glow is no exception. Small and elegant, the salon is spread over two floors. Upstairs is bright and stylish, with a waiting area and a couple of spacious nail station. Downstairs is a warm, welcoming labyrinth of treatment rooms.

Products and treatments: Our spy had the salon’s newest treatment, the Spicy Winter Warmer (£85 for 70 minutes), which was appropriate since she happened to have a streaming cold that day. The treatment began with an all-over body brush to exfoliate and boost circulation. This was followed by a heavenly massage – a mixture of lymph drainage and conventional Swedish – using essential oils of eucalyptus, lemongrass and mandarin. The therapist, Danielle, also massaged our spy’s stomach and scalp, and happily supplied endless tissues. At the end, sinuses miraculously cleared, our spy was left to relax for ten minutes with a warming cup of honey and lemon tea and an overwhelming feeling of calm.

Highs: Total pampering.

Lows: Returning to reality afterwards.
