Winged eyes

You’ll need to call on your artistic skills to perfect this season’s cat-like winged eyes. Give them a 1960s edge with a simple strip of liquid liner, as seen at the Prada show, or take it to the extreme with sculpted shadow from the outer corner to the brow. This trend is all about conspicuous colour and clashing prints. Louis Vuitton and Dior let loose at the shows with smouldering maroon lips and high-drama eyes (yes, you can play up both). Mac’s Style Warrior Eye Shadow (£10) and YSL Rouge Pure Shine lipstick in Wild Blackberry (£20) capture the mood. To go full throttle, you need icy-cool confidence and precise application.

Fat lashes

We are a nation of lash fanatics. Despite our lack of cash, the sales of false eyelashes at Shu Uemura remain strong, and now Girls Aloud have their own hit range of Eylure eyelashes. L’Oréal Telescopic Explosion Mascara (£9), complete with dome brush, lets you coat each lash. Then add a pair of Eylure The Collection Romantic strip lashes (£7.50; 020 8573 9907).

Hair adornments

The catwalks were awash with opulent hair slides, rosettes and barrettes. If you can’t get to grips with a chunky clip (or if your hair simply won’t hold it), fashion a headband from a vintage floral silk scarf.

The no-tan tan
