Today, hundreds of thousands of people will descend on Worthy Farm in Somerset armed with tents, booze and wellington boots as Glastonbury Festival opens its gates. There won’t be room to pack your usual make-up for a night out, and finding a plug for the GHD straightening irons could turn into a bit of an ordeal. But, with some clever products, it is possible to stay looking as preened as the celebrities in the VIP section without having to bring the entire contents of your bathroom cabinet.
Have a good depilation session before you set off to minimise the time spent in drippy, unreliable showers. Those camping for the full six days may find it useful to bring a razor with built-in moisture strips, such as Gillette’s Venus Embrace (£5.83, available at Boots nationwide).
Hairstyling can be difficult in a tent so, unless you are nifty with plaits, have a blow-dry before arriving and keep the style for longer by using a dry shampoo. Try Ojon Hair’s Rub Out Dry Cleanser (£16, ojon.co.uk), which restores fullness to hair without water. For those willing to wash their tresses, Burt’s Bees All-in-one wash (£5.99 at John Lewis) is great for hair and body and is biodegradable, so using it won’t harm the environment.
Any make-up should be kept to a minimum. Remember that constant re-touching trips to the Portaloo are neither easy nor pleasant at a festival, so try not to apply too much in the first place. Invest in a good compact set with a mirror that is small enough to take out and about with you. Bobbi Brown’s Customised palette (£9.77), which can be filled with a choice of eye shadows (£13.70), blushers (£15.66), lip glosses (£13.70) and foundation sticks (£13.70, all at bobbibrown.co.uk), is perfect. Mascara should be waterproof (streaky eyes after a rainstorm is never a good look), and L’Oréal Lash Architect Waterproof Mascara gives maximum effect without breaking the bank at £8.80 (available nationwide).
It’s essential to stock up on the basics: cleansing wipes (Boots usually has its own-brand cucumber wipes on a three-for-two offer), sunscreen in a high factor (Hawaiian Tropic smells wonderful) and sting relief. A great all-round remedy is Aloe Pura Organic Aloe Vera gel (£2.39, 0870 8507114), which can be used on sunburn, stings and bites or just as an intensive moisturiser. Finally, protect eyes with some huge sunglasses and you’re ready to rock.
