Banish any signs of dryness by applying a rich, nourishing lip conditioner or serum. Dab on generously with your fingertips and wait a few minutes for the product to be absorbed. Blot away any excess with a tissue, so the lips have a slightly satinised feel but aren’t totally matt.
Take your usual face concealer and pat over the lip line using your fingertips. The aim is to blot out the natural edges of the lips so the end result has more pop. Blend any excess concealer so it sits invisibly on the skin.
Select a bold lip colour, such as Mac’s Lady Danger, which was used here, and apply it to the inside of the lips, either direct from the tube or using a small lip brush, avoiding the lip line.
Use the same lip brush to blend the colour from the inside of the lips towards the outer edges. This requires a steady hand and lots of light, as the shape has to be perfect. Use a cotton bud to smooth away mistakes.
Terry recommends applying lip liner over the top of lipstick, rather than before it, to add extra definition to the shape of the lips and ensure your pout takes centre stage. Remember, your liner should match your lipstick, so they blend seamlessly.
Terry Barber, Mac director of make-up Artistry UK and Ireland, is known for his super-sculpted make-up style, and has made over some of the world’s most glamorous women. “Grace Jones and Pamela Anderson have a strong signature look,” he says. “I enjoy building a character out of make-up rather than just making someone look pretty. I like superwoman beauty.”
