Jail-bound socialite Paris Hilton urged fans today to sign a petition to pardon her "mistake" because she provides beauty and excitement to "(most of) our otherwise mundane lives".
The 26-year-old was ordered by a Los Angeles judge on Friday to report to a county jail by June 5 to serve a 45-day sentence for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.
Hilton's plea, on her MySpace website, came as her lawyers filed a notice with the court indicating their intent to appeal. The document is required before a formal appeal can be lodged.
The hotel heiress urged fans to join her in a desperate plea to California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to keep her out of jail.
She wrote on her blog: "My friend Joshua started this petition, please help and sihn (sic) it. i LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!"
The petition reads: "Paris Whitney Hilton is an American celebrity and socialite. She is an heiress to a share of the Hilton Hotel fortune, as well as to the real estate fortune of her father Richard Hilton. She provides hope for young people all over the U.S. and the world. She provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives."
It adds: "We, the American public who support Paris, are shocked, dismayed and appalled by how Paris has been the person to be used as an example that Drunk Driving is wrong...
"This petition is to ask Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon Paris Hilton for her mistake. Please allow her to her return to her career and life."

I believe that paris should be punished and sentenced in jail for 45 days. She committed a crime so she should pay for...
Sorry Paris but you will suffer in jail... I heard that women correction is not easy to deal with....
good luck if you are alive,
Elizabeth , New jersey,
Sorry... . Paris who ?
Bill Cowen, Perpignan, France
Is it going to take a manslaughter charge to shed some real light on the underlining issues of this girl's inexcusible behavior? The Girl is out of control and totally out of touch with reality ! How sad that all her $$ buys such adversity. Ask the victims of drunk drivers if she will be missed for 45 days. I am sure the streets of any US city, or elsewhere, will be much safer if PH is not driving.
DS, Miami, FL USA
She SHOULD go to jail and really experience the 'Simple Life'!!
Josephine, London,
Why should she NOT go to jail? That's what I'm wondering... like why should everyone else who commit that crime go and she doesn't??? She should be in the cells now!!
Maasingah, St.Michael, Alaska
IF she's a normal person, she's gonna have to do time for the crime, she needs to take responsibility for her actions, I guess being rich and spoiled helps her...

I think it most likely that Paris Hilton is quite looking forward to a week or two in jail. All those mind-numbingly similar parties from which she cant escape and here is a chance for some freedom. She will talk to a lot of interesting people she doesnt normally get a chance to meet, catch up on some reading, and have an experience she can dine out on for weeks thereafter. In the meantime she seems to be exploiting the situation from other points of view.
Henry Percy, London, UK
This is brilliant, beautiful and exciting - a good laugh on an otherwise 'mundane' Friday afternoon, thanks to the ever-entertaining Ms Hilton...
MS, New York,
Typical 'celebrity (non-entity!!) feeling that she is above the law. Perhaps whilst she is in prison someone can help her with her english. Her spelling leaves a lot to be desired.
Bertram A. Weedon, S'Algar,
I agree with my whole heart full with Mr Mulla. Hilton should stay in the cooler... why because she is hotel lover and beautiful should she not? She committ car crime, therefore 45 days is good.
Dr B Mawson PHD, Gambia,
She can go to jail like EVERYONE else. She is no better then the next person. She makes me sick. She's just a spolied brat who thinks to highly of herself.
James, Toledo, Ohio
I can't say enough about this self-absorbed, egotistical, no-talent person. If I had done the same things she has done over the last 6 months, I would be behind bars. Her parents are her enablers as they just can't see why she is "singled out". Driving without headlights and all over the road are not reasons to pull somone over because they are a celebrity, they are reasons to pull anyone over. She does not "provide hope" for anyone I know. Nothing about drunk or reckless driving provides hope for anyone. And, my life is not mundane, but rather very wonderful and happy without spoiled brats like her.
smarshall, columbus, oh
Wow. She's got a lot of nerve.
Provides beauty and excitement? Hope for young people? Our mundane lives?
How lame. She thinks she's special.
You do the crime, you do the time. Simple as that.
Next time hire a driver, stupid.
Joe, Los Angeles, USA
LMAO
I can't WAIT to hear the Governator's response. Don't bow to the plebs, Aahnold! Inject yet more amusement into this situation! :D
Gordon M, Portland, OR,
I think its great, Paris needs to realise she is'nt above the law. No one should be above the law and yes, sometimes an example needs to be made. I agree with Jane, the public does need her to spend her 45 days in jail, who knows, maybe she can learn how to spell sihn, i mean sign. ;)
shaun, durban, SA
I hope she meets Big Bertha in jail!
P. Sharma, Yorba Linda, CA
Paris needs to suck it up and serve her time. Hey, she'll probably end up making the whole experience into a reality tv show anyway. 'The Hard Life' sounds like a catchy title...
Skye James, Philadelphia, PA
Paddy,
It remains to be seen whether there are two sets of rules. Justice has not taken its course. Remember, she is in a California (LA area) court.
Take a look at the OJ trial, Phil Spector, Kobe Bryant, etc. before jumping to the conclusion that her money and fame will not keep her out of jail.
In America, celebrity is royalty.
Steve, NY, NY
She's not in jail, yet. She's got another 40days for her parents to get her out of this.
I hope not, but I don't believe she'll spend a day in jail.
Robotech, arab, USA AL
Drunken drivers are losers. And it is important for Paris to do her time otherwise it sends a message that wealthy people do not have to adhere to the standards of the lower class. (I'd just assume they give her the chair)
paul, dallas, TX
Being American means abiding by American Laws. Paris Hilton was driving on the suspended list (jailable offense), was driving wreckless (jailable in some cases), and drunk (also jailable in some cases). Laws aren't to be taken lightly, and no one is above them. Do the time and shaddup sweety.
Nunzio, Blooffield, NJ
She should be pleased that she only received 45 days in prison despite the fact that her reckless actions could have killed someone!
