Amid the terrible stories from Tibet, Austria and Zimbabwe, and the agonising search for Madeleine McCann, we sincerely hope, reader, that your well of sympathy has not run dry. Dig deep and find some pity, won't you, for Myleene Klass, M&S model, classical pianist, TV presenter and former member of Hear'Say, whose spirit in adversity should be an example to us all.
Myleene, you see, has had a baby. And she has made the unique discovery that this can sometimes involve stuff that isn't at all like pouting in a bikini. In a heartbreaking interview, she says: “I am tired - tired all the time. Sometimes I feel like crying because I'm so tired ... things haven't worked out the way I thought they would and, just when I think I'm getting there, something else comes along. Just when I'd got sterilising bottles down to a T, I had to start making purées.”
Can you bear it? Mothers the world over will offer a sisterly embrace when they hear about one of Myleene's “worst nights”, when she was hosting the red carpet at the Baftas and was worried to learn that her burglar alarm was going off at home. “I had to put a big smile on my face as I interviewed Ricky Gervais and Daniel Craig. I thought: ‘What am I doing? How do people do this?'” Search us, love. Maybe we'll pop down to Tesco and ask folk there how the hell they juggle kids and hosting the Baftas.
And now we learn from her blog that, when she flew to New York with the baby to do some TV work, Terminal 5 lost her pram! Will this woman's trials never end? Thankfully she has found time to help lesser yummy mummies with a gallery of products, from a My Bump & Me pregnancy diary to her Baby K clothing range.
But still people snipe. “They [other women] look at me and say ‘she's so ambitious'. Yes, I am driven, but I could never just stay at home and not work.” Quite right. You stay strong, Myleene. You humble us all.
