They got the £2.5million exclusive OK! magazine contract, the £200,000 Marchesa gown and the booking of a 17th century palace for the reception, but it seems the happy couple forgot to tip off the weather man about their nuptials.
The union of Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin, the most anticipated wedding of the WAG calendar since, well, the last OK! wedding, was hit by heavy showers in Portofino on the Italian Riviera today.
Whether Wayleen were aware of the showers or not, remains to be seen, as they travelled under tight security in vehicles with blacked-out windows to the venue.
The entire occasion is rumoured to have cost around £5 million, with the OK! deal covering half and is expected to end with a huge fireworks display.
For the civil ceremony yesterday, held in the town hall at Portofino, on the Italian Riviera, they chose an informal theme (shorts and sandals for the groom), then it was tuxedo and tie time for the ten-hour pre-wedding ball on board the yacht RM Elegant.
Private jets have ferried 64 family members, WAGs and football stars to Italy, who will spend three days on the Alysia, a (different) £40 million yacht, where the reception will be held.
During the civil ceremony, the town’s mayor oversaw the traditional signing of the £2.5 million exclusive OK! magazine contract to cover the lavish blow-out to follow.
Wayleen watchers will recall that an 18th birthday party held for Coleen descended into a drunken brawl between the two families. She is said to be keen to limit the alcohol intake of her new inlaws at the wedding. It still remains to be seen if Portofino will witness a post wedding dust-up.
