Ronnie Wood, at 61 the youngest of the Rolling Stones, had a small gift for his daughter Leah at her wedding yesterday to Jack Macdonald, a television producer: five dwarfs to entertain guests at the reception.
Wood gave away Leah, the oldest of his two children from his marriage to former model Jo Howard, at Southwark cathedral in London.
The guests included fellow Stones Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards; Jerry Hall, Jagger’s former wife, and Jade Jagger, his daughter; Tracey Emin, the artist; Paul O’Grady, the television chat show host; Jimmy White, the snooker player, and Cilla Black, the singer turned TV presenter. Jagger sneaked in through a side entrance with his girlfriend L’Wren Scott, the American fashion stylist.
The bridesmaids included one of White’s daughters, a friend of Leah’s since school.
A friend of the Stones who was among the guests said: “It was almost like a Stones reunion. But surprisingly for them it was a very traditional wedding, almost classical. Leah looked beautiful in a long white dress and veil.”
Wood hired the dwarfs to play pranks on guests at the reception. Wedding organisers had worked on a theme based on the character of Puck, the sprite from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Leah, 29, a model who also sings in a rock band, married Macdonald, her boyfriend of 11 years, on the day of the summer solstice. The couple, who live in London, got engaged during a holiday in Kenya last year.
The Stones were expected play in a celebratory jam at Wood’s mansion in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, last night.

Keith Richards.......a dork????? Come on.....that is the coolest guy on earth! Whether at a wedding or the Queen's Coronation, the guy is always himself!!!
Lisa, grantville, usa
summer solstice is actually not until tuesday....
andrea, london, uk
Rolling Stone or not, someone ought to have a word in Keith Richard's ear and tell him he looks a dork in that bandana.
Paul Cook, London, United Kingdom
The Rolling Stones are simply the greatest artists in any medium of the 2nd half of the 20th Century. My only regret is that the very great Bill Wyman is no longer with them.
William, Los Angeles,
Anything with a dwarf enlivens affairs. Political parties should take note of this. I would look more favourably on Gordon Brown if he was a dwarf.
Eric, Miami, USA
I sometimes wonder about woody, but he is an excellent guitarist even if he lives in ghome mans land at times. I bet the celebratory jam was hot and personally I would rather be reading about that rather than guest list nonsense. Sold on dvd that jam would generate more than a hello wedding fee!
kenny livitt, hove,
How breathtakingly tasteless and insensitive. I'm amazed the entertainers were prepared to go along with it.
Anna, kendal, uk
We are all only human and weddings are cause for joy, laughter and celebration. Would have loved to have played at the jam session!
Alexander, Hamar, Norway,
how quaint - vertically challenged entertainers. Court jesters.
