Alpha Mummy blog: The 12 most expensive celebrity baby pictures
Pictures of the newborn twins of the Hollywood actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were published today for the first time after a record-breaking $14 million picture deal.
The images of Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon and their parents were sold jointly to Hello! magazine and the US weekly People magazine.
Every penny of the price tag is to be donated to a foundation created by Pitt and Jolie that largely focuses on helping children around the world.
Previously the most expensive price ever paid for celebrity pictures was believed to be the $6 million that People paid for Jennifer Lopez’s twins on one of its March covers.
Rumours of a bidding war for the pictures surfaced before the babies were born, on July 12 in Nice, southern France.
It is the third time that the celebrity couple, known jocularly as Brangelina, has worked with the two magazines in exchange for a substantial donation to charity.
Jolie and Pitt sold the rights to the first six photos of their daughter Shiloh, now 2 years old, in exchange for a reported $4 million donation in June 2006. That edition of People sold 2.2 million copies, Media Week reported.
Last year, the couple sold intimate shots of their son Pax, then 3 years old, to Hello! and People.
Getty Images, which was involved in the deal for pictures of Shiloh and took those photos, was also involved this time around. Jonathan Klein, Getty co-founder and CEO, said that his company was “delighted that all proceeds from these stunning images will once again be donated entirely to charity.”
Jolie, 33, and Pitt, 44, established their foundation in 2006. They donated $1 million in June to The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict to help children affected by the war in Iraq.
Last year, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation gave more than $300,000 to support the International Rescue Committee’s relief program for Darfur refugees.
