Alpha Mummy blog: The 12 most expensive celebrity baby pictures
Pictures of the newborn twins of the Hollywood actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were published today for the first time after a record-breaking $14 million picture deal.
The images of Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon and their parents were sold jointly to Hello! magazine and the US weekly People magazine.
Every penny of the price tag is to be donated to a foundation created by Pitt and Jolie that largely focuses on helping children around the world.
Previously the most expensive price ever paid for celebrity pictures was believed to be the $6 million that People paid for Jennifer Lopez’s twins on one of its March covers.
Rumours of a bidding war for the pictures surfaced before the babies were born, on July 12 in Nice, southern France.
It is the third time that the celebrity couple, known jocularly as Brangelina, has worked with the two magazines in exchange for a substantial donation to charity.
Jolie and Pitt sold the rights to the first six photos of their daughter Shiloh, now 2 years old, in exchange for a reported $4 million donation in June 2006. That edition of People sold 2.2 million copies, Media Week reported.
Last year, the couple sold intimate shots of their son Pax, then 3 years old, to Hello! and People.
Getty Images, which was involved in the deal for pictures of Shiloh and took those photos, was also involved this time around. Jonathan Klein, Getty co-founder and CEO, said that his company was “delighted that all proceeds from these stunning images will once again be donated entirely to charity.”
Jolie, 33, and Pitt, 44, established their foundation in 2006. They donated $1 million in June to The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict to help children affected by the war in Iraq.
Last year, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation gave more than $300,000 to support the International Rescue Committee’s relief program for Darfur refugees.

I had a great laugh over this. Here are two greedy, here today gone tommorow actor parents earning a fortune selling the photographs of their god-like twins so stupid people who earn a fraction of what the photographs sold for, can buy the rag Hello and see them. They are babies people. Wake up.
Bernard Lawson, London, England
Strange that Deborah in De Soto challenged Angelina and not Brad. "Nice going Jolie..PIMP your kids for money and call it "chairty". Do you not think him equally culpable? I'm no fan of either but I am always taken aback by the venom Angelina seems to attract.
dolly, singapore, singapore
Brad looks like he's flashy a new ring?! Are they romantically married now, rather than legally? Good on them, that's all I say. Happiness such as this doesn't come easily...
Joanna, London, UK
Kudos to the Jolie-Pitt family! They have worked for their own money and have donated millions to charities that help children! Now they have sold their twins first pics and will donate 14million to benefit kids once again! This couple are too good to be true! God Bless them for their generosity!
Jennifer , Ontario, Canada
Giving to charity is admirable whether it is done publicly or privately. I think it's for the best that people know what the Jolie-Pitts are doing with the money paid for the pictures of their children rather than secretly donating, otherwise people would accuse them of keeping it all to themselves
Jade, London,
An obscene amount of money that could probably wipe out the debts of a small African country... But eh, this costly exercise is all in the name of charity, is it not?
Nathalie Hachet, Manchester, UK
What would be better, that some paparazzi gets the pictures and make the money? It is their children, and if somebody is going to get the money for the first pictures it should be them. Besides, it is not like they are going to keep the money, they are going to give it to people in need.
Evelyn, Carbondale,
What a terribly expensive guilt trip!! Neither of these people gave a damn over how they humiliated Jennifer Aniston over and over again! No money is going to counteract that shabby behaviour!
Hana Brennan, Kilkenny, Ireland
Nice going Jolie..PIMP your kids for money and call it "chairty"...didn't anyone ever tell you..Charity begins at HOME! There are millions right here in our OWN country that need aid..But then again, it's ALL REALLY just about YOUR OVER inflated ego, isn't it!
Deborah, De Soto,
Elizabeth, there are several other celebrities who donate millions to charity. They just don't make it public because it really doesn't matter where the money comes but rather where it goes.
Cute babies, I must say!
Franziska, Sevenoaks,
Cute, but they're just two more kids. I don't see what the big deal is!
Kat, dundee,
I think it is great they are donating all the money to charity. Through this their children will be saving other children. Thus the pay tag for charity should not be limited.
Its a shame other celebrities don't help charities financially, except their free video clips pretending to do something
