Madonna and Guy: who owns what
Madonna and Guy Ritchie are planning to divorce, it was reported late last night.
The Sun newspaper claimed that the couple were preparing to announce the split because “they can’t bear to live with the pretence any longer”.
A spokeswoman for Madonna declined to comment but the paper claimed that a statement would be made public imminently. A “highly-placed” but unnamed source quoted by the paper said that the pair “can now barely bring themselves to say two words to each other”.
The source added: “Despite huge attempts to patch things up they both knew deep down that divorce was on the cards. It wasn’t a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’.” It was also claimed that the couple had not spoken face to face for three weeks.
Rumours of marital difficulties have dogged the singer and her film director husband for about a year. In July the wife of baseball’s highest paid star, Alex Rodriguez, filed for divorce, blaming Madonna for the collapse of the marriage. Madonna, 50, denied any ro- mantic involvement with Rodriguez.
Madonna and Ritchie have previously strongly denied reports that they were to split and said that there were “no plans” to divorce. Last month they presented a united front at the premiere in London of Mr Ritchie’s film RocknRolla and Mr Ritchie’s 40th birthday party. The couple have children, Rocco, 8, and David Banda, who was adopted as a baby from Malawi, 2. Madonna has a daughter, Lourdes, 12, from her relationship with the dancer Carlos Leon. They married in 2000.

Obviously NOT to the Manor Born. As a long-term standing fan of Madonna her latest re-invention in her outstanding career is I can only say her worst ever. She even let her fans down by starting her show in Cardiff 1.40 minutes late. No wonder her marriage to the Lord of the Manor has failed

Nixmac,
8 years of marriage in any land these days is extremely good going
Mofoluso Adetokunbo Sodeke, Bromley,
maybe she should re-read her awful childrens books to find the source of her failed relationship ! i mean, look, it was pure fantasy this marriage. a pretending aristocratic east end boy meets italian rock goddess and live off oxford st and a house in wiltshire. what led zepplin album was that?
Jane, London, UK
Sad to read
So many millions of people in the world met on a dance floor dancing to her music and are now happily married.
Sad there relation ship is coming to an end

A woman is married for four things; wealth, status, modesty and beauty. You should find a suitable match who is modest and prolific or you will be the loser. They still have time to make it work. Think creatively not critically, guys. God bless you.

Arabella we do not live in a by gone age where people marry the same class, or try to better their lot by marrying "above oneself" thank goodness the majority of us marry because of love. We can all fall in and out of it and this is apparmtly what has happened. NOT Class or Nationality
Fra, Dublin,
To Arabella, How do you know this marraige broke down due to 'class' problems, are you their marraige counsellor?? IMHO marraige between members of the opposite sex rarely works.
Mary, Cavan, Ireland
8 years of marriage in celebrity land is pretty good going really.

arslan, london,
May I ask, who cares about Madonna going through another divorce??? I think this story getting so much coverage in the media is a sad reflection of our confused priorities.
Katy, Nottingham,
It was inevitable. Marriage between members of different social classes rarely works. Add the fact that 'Madonna' is not just working class but American as well and the difficulties are compounded. From reports, she tried to raise her standards but these things take time - not years but generations.
Arabella, Liverpool, England
First the world economic meltdown - now this, it's all almost too much to bear.
