After completing your three-day heal and repair plan it is time to up the ante and kick-start your body into action, boosting your metabolism and getting your system firing on all cylinders. Foods have been carefully chosen with these aims, as well as to continue to repair your system. Although weight loss is not the main intention, if you follow this plan for the next seven days, you should shed 5lb without trying, while enjoying delicious meals.
BREAKFAST
On waking, have a glass of hot water infused with lemon and a chunk of ginger.
Ginger is a great circulation booster and also raises your metabolism slightly (as does chilli, which is used optionally in some of the recipes below).
Start each breakfast with half a grapefruit. It helps to lower blood-sugar levels and reduces appetite. If you are on statins to lower cholesterol, grapefruit should be avoided. Instead, have a glass of the beetroot and orange juice (as detailed in yesterday's times2 or online at timesonline.co.uk/healthdiet).
You can continue eating the breakfasts featured yesterday (natural muesli with grated apple; berry smoothie with a slice of rye, sourdough or multigrain toast; a bowl of porridge topped with goji berries and a swirl of honey - timesonline.co.uk/healthdiet) or mix and match with any of the extra suggestions below.
Chilli scrambled eggs
In a frying pan over a low-to-medium heat add a little extra-virgin olive oil and half a small, finely chopped red onion. Cook until onions are golden. Add 1 small chopped green chilli and cook for a further 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
Break 2 eggs directly into the pan and immediately stir eggs, turning heat to low and stirring until eggs are cooked through. Season with a little salt and black pepper and serve with a slice of rye or multigrain toast.
Poached eggs on multigrain toast with grilled mushrooms
Lightly brush two flat mushrooms with olive oil, season and grill. Meanwhile, poach two eggs.
