As if you needed to be told, March 18 is now officially Death of the Diet Day. According to research by PruHealth, 78 days after January 1, we have finally admitted that the diet isn’t working and we still haven’t used our gym memberships.
With that in mind, we have compiled a list of 20 DVDs that could get you moving, some unintentionally with the power of laughter and others because they are genuinely fun.
Trisha: rejuvenate
What it says on the box: This is for anyone who wants to look and feel
younger, healthier, fitter – and stay that way.
The idea: Talk show host Trisha Goddard reveals how she shrank from a size 18
to a size 10 (but unfortunately not how she looks about 35 when she is
really 50)
What we thought: This is pitched for someone who has only a basic level of
fitness. As fitness improves, greater portions of the DVD can be attempted.
If the exercise gets too much, watch as Trisha tells her life story in the
extras.
Cringe factor: Psychological performance coach Jamil Qureshi’s motivational
speaking. Try following his instructions without laughing.
Rosemary Conley’s Brand New You Workout with Coleen Nolan
What it says on the box: Three stone, 4 dress sizes, 5 months! Coleen Nolan proves Rosemary Conley’s latest DVD workout achieves results in super-quick time.
The idea: The original fitness video motivator ropes in the Nolan Sisters singer and two other successful pupils to demonstrate her workout.
What we thought: This was one of the least daunting of the DVDs. Rosemary demonstrates each step carefully and each participant’s movements is pitched at a different level of fitness. The music is by far the best of all the DVDs, with Flashdance, Hot Stuff and The Look of Love.
Cringe factor: The obligatory fixed grins – no one exercising is that happy – we are not fooled.
Dirty Dancing: the official dance workout
What it says on the box: Get fit and have the time of your life!
The idea: Take one smash-hit movie and theatre show and create a dance workout spin-off

For all those overwight and obese people who live in a perpetual fantasy world regarding weight reduction, here is the magic formula which works thoughout the known universe:-
Energy STORED = Energy IN - Energy OUT
Where
Energy IN = calorific value of food intake
Energy OUT = physical work done + heat radiated + residual calorific value of excretia
Energy STORED = body fat (over the longer term), but includes blood sugar and other storage mechanisms in the short term
You know what you have to do, now stop making excuses and get on with it!

Well the above picture of the "new" Coleen looks well and truly air brushed, comparing it to the pictures of her out on the town last night in one or two of the tabloids. Still don't suppose she minds!

Blimey - are there any real work-out videos on this list by people who actually know what they're doing - and is there anything for men? All of this seems ideal for the mid-40s housewife who wants to leave something on the coffee table ti impress her kids. For those who actually want to know how to get and stay fit read Tom venuto Burn the Fat, feed the Muscle or go to Alwyn Cosgrove's website. These are real sports pro's and personal trainers who will teach you everything you need to know about getting seriously fit, eating well and looking good.

It's very biased towards TV presenters and big brother contestants. Fancy training with Bruce Lee in your living room? My vote for weird and wonderful is training with Shaolin monk Shifu Yan Lei in his Shaolin workout DVDs. Scary but very effective
