Amy, 6: I think God makes babies, using a very special magic. They grow in a mummy's tummy. I think God rolls a dice, maybe, that's got hundreds of numbers on it. Each lady has a number, and if that number matches the number that is on the dice that God throws, the lady gets a baby growing in her tummy. I think ladies are pregnant for about a month and then the baby comes out of the tummy. I remember being in my mummy's tummy. It was lovely and warm inside.
Joseph, 7: Babies come from mummies' tummies which is where they get born. There is an egg inside the tummy and it cracks. The tummy decides if it's a boy or girl. It starts by making the head and then the rest of the body. The daddy helps the mummy look after the baby and he helps by sex. He gives the baby half the blood. One day when you are really in love, you say you are going to have sex and then you've made a baby.
Angus, 5: Babies come from the mummy and daddy. Inside the mummy's tummy, they go zoom - the two things. Whoever wins the race goes wuvavoovavoov, mixed up with the egg and then out pops the baby. Which one won the race? Did I win the race? Do they have eyes? I won't have any children. I don't want to put my willy in that secret hole.
Frederica, 6: They come from Mummy's tummy. They start like an egg. I'm not sure how the egg gets there to begin with. I think it comes from food. You eat lots of food, very healthy food, and that makes the egg. But you do have to eat very healthy food, even like 18 broccolis a week. The egg in the tummy grows bigger and bigger. Then the mummy goes to hospital and the doctor cuts open her tummy and she can see the little baby peeping out. There is a tube between the mummy and baby that feeds the baby before it is born, and then that turns into your tummy button. That's where they come from. Babies don't grow in the ground or come from the sea or anything. (What do daddies do?) You have to be married first before the baby comes. That's how you know to get a baby ready. Mummies have the baby and daddies get to choose the name. There are some differences between boys and girls. Boys have short hair and girls have long hair. Boys are tough and girls are girlie. Boys don't really like princesses. Boys and girls both have nipples. We don't really talk about things like this at school.
Jessica, 6: The only thing I know about how babies are made is that the sperm joins up with the egg. I know the sperm comes from the father, and the egg from the mother. I think it happens because the people are near to each other. I don't know exactly what happens next. After this, the baby starts growing in the mummy's tummy. It stays there for nine months, gets bigger and starts to kick. The baby and the mummy are joined together by a cord that gets cut when the baby comes out. After nine months, the mummy goes to hospital and the people take the baby out of her tummy. I was the wrong way round. I know that some babies come out a different way, but I'm not sure how.

A child of 5/6 will ask the question 'where do babies come from?' you answer it simply and concisly, and make sure you follow it up with a conversation when they are about 10/11 giving them the details they need for puperty and beyond. This isn't happening, there is your problem.
Kat, somerset,
My mother is OBGYN, and I can't remember a time I didn't know where babies came from. Also, practically growing up in the hospital gave me a healthy appreciation for what people go through to have babies. Helped me not fall into society's obession w/ sex, I knew what happened. Knowledge is power.
Elizabeth, Beloit, USA
I'm pretty sure that not talking to your kids about sex is how teen moms happen. Age appropriate discussion, of course. Based on these bright young children's answers, someone has done a good job of keeping kids in the dark just enough to satisfy them until they are old enough to handle the truth.
Michelle, Terre Haute, USA
If anyone handed my 6 year old a pamphlet that explained that I would sue! My child knows about the facts of life don't get me wrong but this world is to perverted now a days to put a young child through that.! Children should be having fun not worring about sex. thats how you get teen moms
Toni Shaw, Vancouver, Washington, Usa
Shouldn't those six-year- olds be outside... playing like normal six year olds do?
Why, when I was six, we were MUCH too busy playing "I'll show you mine if you show me yours!"...to worry about where babies come from! Let the kids enjoy the simple joys of childhood...for heaven's sake!
Garth Rex, Glendale Heights, USA
If something is not working change it - for the better - the western world has tried sex education younger and younger and the problems keep getting worse and worse! How about they try teaching sex with one person in a loving safe relationship...just try...the statistics can hardly get worse canthey
Joanne, Aberdeen,
OMG, Angus is so cute. "I don't want to put my will in that secret hole"
Would love to ask my 7yr old how babies are made but petrified at what she might come out with!
Milly , london,
I've died laughing!! Angus is brilliant..."Whoever wins the race goes wuvavoovavoov". It sounds like they all understand basically how a baby is made. Better now than 10 years down the road and ending up teen parents. At least they won't be able to plead ignorance.
Ashlee, London,
Children from the age of three can be taught that no one is allowed to touch their body and nobody is allowed to make the child touch another body. Innocence preserved, child protection implemented.
Agyness, Bristol, England
Yeah Charles because purity talks instead of real sex education hasn't resulted in the US having one of the highest levels of teen pregenancy rates in the west. Giving kids useful advice is far more helpful than telling them that sex is inherenty wrong, we should do more here to inform children.
Simon, Cambridge, UK
The fact is, avoiding talking about sex until the child is pubescent is failing. So is encouraging Absitnence Only. Also, teaching a six-year-old the proper names for genitalia and reproductive cells is not "taking their innosence." It's empowering them, and an empowered child is a safe child.
A. Shelton, Salt Lake City, USA
I think that its good to let younger generations know the facts, but not that young. Okay so its natural and to be expected, and even in the way of religion (If it wasn't wanted, we wouldn't be give the choice) but kids are still kids, and we take away innocence when we burden them like that.
Joy, Swansea,
I think Jessica's parents deserve an award. This child has not been filled with made up stories that protect the parent(s) from embarrassment but serve no purpose. She has been given factual information that reflects her age, maturity and innocence. WELL DONE HER PARENTS!!
Laura, Brentwood, Essex
This is disgusting. And we wonder why our children are becoming more sex-obsessed than ever. Here's an idea, how about telling them to be decent, moral, and ethical people? How about raising the next-generation Gods way instead of sacrificing morality? May God help us if we reject family values.
Charles J, NJ, USA
I wonder if little Angus will change his mind? Probably me thinks.
Gill, Maidenhead,
Jessica, 6: Wow, I am impressed, she is far more clued up at age 6 than I was at 11! Children develop and mature at different ages and I think that as soon as children start to show some curiosity and ask questions, parents should answer these questions honestly.
Sam, London,
What they said has been transcripted and edited for readibility?
If not they write nearly as well as the average adult loool
Angus isn't putting his willie in that secret hole! haha
TomH, Hampshire, UK
I think it's very important for children to know 'the facts' - and what is wrong with it after all, it's the cyle of life and death. I think having contact with animals, seeing them mate, have babies and die is something that children should all experience and learn from.
Be open I say.
Jemma, Oxford,
Don't worry about Dan's capitals, it's his idea of devolution for the caveman society which caught my eye. Does this reveal his view of the Scots? And Andy in Chicago - don't worry, parents can teach their children whatever they want to - see the first amendment for details.
Simon, Brussels,
I agree, its really cute and funny and there is no reason a 6 year old needs to know more than this. Lets let the kids enjoy their innocence for a while longer....
Rachel Bochenski, Chester, UK
Not bad for their age?? I think it is fantastic for their age! A few of them know more than I did at 16 (well almost)! Super sweet to learn that parents teach their kids these things w/o having a bunch of protests from the ignorant Christian bible-hugging right.
Kim, Zurich,
That's so sweet! Lovely imaginations and lots of intelligence. Angus cracked me up, I like that kiddie!
Falana Dimka, London,
Not bad at all for their age. I'm happy at least one of them mentions you must be married before you have babies. I once spoke to a fourteen year old boy, one of my pupils, who thought if he ejaculated on his own, a baby would grow wherever the sperm landed!
Joe, London, UK
@ Dan, New York
You're complaining about a 6 year old's grammar. Are you serious? Also you might want to capitalize the first word of each of your sentences.
Kristen, Madison, WI,
children enjoy eggs & chicken storey
MB, birmingham, UK
It is an appropriate level of knowledge for kids their age, but....
Here in the US, thats all they're allowed to know. They won't know anymore by the time they "graduate" from high school.
Idiocracy, its happening man.
Andy James, Chicago, USA
The state of elementary education is Britain is shocking. 18 broccolis? it doesn't even make grammatical sense. With a generation this poorly educated, all of the British Isles will have devolved into a cavemen society within 20 years.
Dan, New York,
I love Angus. FPA is pioneering a great work, shall watch and see what happened, might be good to start here in my country.
Wei Keat, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
That youngest one really make me surprised
wm, Ningbo, China
Nobody is allowed to kiss or touch your bottom or the rest of your body until you are grown. If anyone does, you tell your mum AND dad AND your teacher straight away to stop it from happening again.
Agyness, Bristol, England
The last one of these 5 children, Jessica sounds astoundingly articulate for a 6- year old-
Scott Benowitz, Rye, New York, U.S.A.
lol so cute
Ana, Hollywood, USA
thats more than i knew when i was 13.
Sarath, Aylesbury, UK
What lovely stories!!!
All a 6 year old has to know!!! Plenty of time to learn the clinical correct facts much later on.
