Science is not a dry list of facts. It’s all around us — it’s about fun, discovery and asking questions, and it doesn’t matter if you don’t know the answers. Drop fruits into the bath and see if you can guess which ones will float and which will sink. On your way to school, count how many red things you can see.
Children are curious about science and we want to keep that curiosity fresh and alive. There are lots of terrific children’s books and great TV shows, but we thought they deserved a magazine that has great design and interactivity, and is fun for parents and grandparents, too.
Okido looks a bit like a book but you can doodle and draw on it. You can eat it if you like — it’s made with vegetable ink — but it may not taste too great.
Each issue is developed around a science theme. It could be the muscles, or the senses, or movement. There are cool characters like Messy Monster and Zim Zam and Zoom; there are recipes like alien muffins and a pizza that looks like a city, there is making origami.
If you have a young child and not that much money, the days can feel long. But you can make fun with the free things around you, and change your reality. Adventure is just around the corner.
