PEACHES GELDOF
“I love my name. It’s hilarious to tell people and see their reaction. I think it’s pretty,” reckons Peaches, 17. She’s dropped her middle names, Honeyblossom Michelle Charlotte Angel Vanessa, and is making a precocious living as a journalist, presenter, DJ and all-round junior celeb. Sisters Pixie, Fifi Trixibelle and Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily are yet to follow suit.
DIXIE DOT RICHARDSON
Proving that odd baby names are not the preserve of pure A-listers, Changing Rooms star Anna Ryder Richardson has given her daughters the monikers Dixie Dot and Bibi Bell. Yes, as in the cheese.
DAKOTA BLUE RICHARDS
She wasn’t born a celeb brat, but the previously unknown child star of the forthcoming film of Phillp Pullman’s His Dark Materials was certainly christened with a celeb-friendly label. Expect a rash of babies called Dakota soon. They will go through life being called “Dax” and feeling like sausage dogs.
SHILOH NOUVEL
It sounds like an expensive hotel in Dubai, but that didn’t deter Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Shiloh supposedly means “peaceful one” in Hebrew, but Shiloh can expect life to be anything but.
BARRIANA WHITE
The three-year-old daughter of Barry, the Walrus of Love, was born four weeks before he died in 2003. Naming your child after you has also been taken to extremes by Michael Jackson with Prince Michaels I & II, and George Foreman, the boxer, who named his seven sons George and his daughter (surprise) Georgetta.
KAL-EL CAGE
Superman fans will know this is the real name of the man of steel. Nicolas Cage was supposedly cast by Tim Burton in a never-made version for which he reportedly received several million dollars. Hence baby Kal-El, who was born in 2005 to Cage’s wife Alice Kim. Still, try finding a mug with that on.
SURI CRUISE
According to her parents’ publicist, Suri means “princess” in Hebrew and “red rose” in Persian. Aptly it also means “go away”, in Japanese: which Suri will be screaming at paparazzi as soon she can talk.
DWEEZIL ZAPPA
The hospital would not register Frank’s son as Dweezil in 1969, so he called him Ian Donald Calvin Euclid. At the age of 5, Ian changed his name to Dweezil (short for “Da Weasel”, Zappa’s name for his wife’s little toe). Ian perhaps felt dull next to siblings Moon Unit, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan and Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen.
ZOWIE BOWIE
Duncan Zowie Heywood Jones, otherwise known as Zowie Bowie, has lived most of his 34 years unobtrusively as Duncan Jones. “It’s just not for me,” he says of celebrity. “I don’t want people coming up to me in shops.” Now working in advertising, he was behind the recently banned “kung-fu lesbian” ad for French Connection.
SATCHEL FARROW
The 18-year-old son of Woody Allen and Mia Farrow was named in tribute to a black 1920s baseball player. By the age of 7 he had been so badly teased he decided to call himself Seamus. Now called Ronan Seamus Farrow, he is studying law at Yale University. He also writes for big American newspapers, primarily on the Darfur conflict.
