Having a beer with Sophia Loren

A smouldering Sophia Loren looked down on revelers at Monday night's Vogue Italia and Peroni party, to launch an exhibition that runs during Fashion Week, celebrating 50 years of Italian style. Seminal images and fashion spreads from the magazine's pages have been blown up to cover the walls at the On/Off gallery at the Royal Academy of Arts. The party was high glamour, with interesting hats, models in skyscraper heels and attendees such as Style's Colin McDowell, Sophie Ellis Baxtor and Piers Morgan. The Crystal ball

Swarovski seems to have been all over town this week. In addition to turning up in Christopher Kane's new collection, it’s the main sponsor of the London Design Festival, launched last night with a party at the Royal Festival Hall. The hall was filled with men in "interesting" eyeglasses and women in funky clothes sipping Veuve Cliquot, many of them gathering round two craft carts to make their own badges. Noteworthy architects and designers had created several Swarovski crystal chandeliers for the space. One looked like a cross between a suspended Christmas tree and a jellyfish, made up of small crystal balls that moved up and down, twinkling in the light. Another was topped by a brown mop like an oversized toupee - the effect was of a chandelier doing its best impression of Joey Ramone. - JH
