Q I am really hankering after a boater hat. I’m sure one of the designers used them on the catwalk, but as yet I haven’t found them on the high street. Are there any moderately priced versions available?
A It was Marc Jacobs who sent his models down the catwalk wearing Mary Poppins-style boaters (pictured, £250). And, sure enough, the high street has followed suit. Topshop's delightful, slightly squishy boater (£20) is a perfect take on the trend and comes in three colours.
Q I am getting married in a church in Rome in September and the dress code is conservative, with shoulders covered. Ideally, I would wear a knee-length dress that shows quite a lot of arm. So what can I wear to cover up?
A For a wedding dress that fulfils the church’s dress code as well as your criteria, something like Alberta Ferretti’s baby-doll dress from Browns Bride (£810; brownsfashion.com) is your best bet. However, for the best of both worlds, go for a dress and cover-up. Paul & Joe’s cream Sancerr dress (£420; my-wardrobe.com) shows off your shoulders without being slutty. For the church, try a white tuxedo jacket — it worked for Bianca Jagger. Or this kimono-style jacket from New Look (pictured, £30) is a steal.
Q I am a 16-year-old girl looking for a party dress I can wear either day or night in August. I am a size 10/12 and my budget is £60.
A The good news is that the high street comes into its own on the dress front this summer. For something that works both day and night, an asymmetric style is a great bet. Wear this purple Miss Selfridge dress (pictured, £32) with a cardigan and sandals during the day, and dress it up with heels at night. Alternatively, this strapless number from New Look (pictured, £30) in a brilliant red will look great with a denim jacket or blazer.
