It is my hen party at the end of July and I don’t know what to wear. I want to feel sassy, not slutty. I have a budget of £100
This season is all about getting your legs out. You sound as if you probably have a nice set of pins with those stats, so have a wax, slap some fake tan on and you’ll be half way there already.
Dresses have dominated party wear for several years now, but a new trend is pushing through that could be the answer to your celebratory dilemma: the jumpsuit. Cute without looking trashy — as this one, above, by Liquorish proves — you can easily dress them up with heels and lots of gold jewellery. After the hen is over, you can wear it as shown for a warm summer’s day.
There are also plenty around that have longer, slinkier silhouettes. Religion has a black, pink and white tie-dye strapless version (£65, urbanoutfitters.co.uk) that reaches the calf but still has a modern, sexy feel. Even Marks & Spencer is in on the jumpsuit act. Its Limited Collection bubblegum style in linen has a drawstring at the waist, which makes it extra flattering. Even better, it’s only £35 (marksandspencer.com).
Now you just need to sort out your accessories. A spindly heel could tip this look towards tacky, so stick to a wedge or chunky platform. All you need is a pair of fabulous earrings to finish off the look. Then again, if you take the traditional L-plates and veil into consideration, you might find that you have accessories enough.
