The problem with underwear these days is where to start. We’re bowled over by all that’s on offer. Almost every actress and designer seems to have had exactly the same idea, thinking it time to reintroduce the notion of trousseaux-like gorgeousness into underwear.

Such glamour pusses as Elle Macpherson, Kylie, Caprice and Collette Dinnigan have put their names to pretty collections, and designers noted for their in-your-face sexiness such as Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli and Versace have all put their own stamp on the standard bra and panties.

You give me no clue as to your size, shape or problems, should you have any. All I can do therefore is pull out some of the names that seem to me to make the sort of thing you have in mind. First off, there’s a delicious new line by a young woman called Marissa Montgomery (she is just 19). She has given her range the cheeky name of Pussy Glamore and it’s exclusively at Joseph. As you can see here, it is very pretty — bra and pants in pink silk satin trimmed with black — but also it’s properly constructed (she uses a manufacturer who makes for M&S). At £55 for the bra and £35 for the knickers, it is in the luxury class but not beyond reach. Marissa is clearly going to be one to watch.

More prettiness comes from Elle Macpherson in the shape of this pale green lace-trimmed bra and knickers. Again we’ve looked for a bra that will give you proper support. At £32 for the bra and £20 for the knickers, they are a good buy (020-7478 0280). To make you feel as if you are part of the cast of Gone with the Wind — no bad thing when on honeymoon — take a look at Elle’s lovely black and pink lace bra and knickers. At £32 and £22, they are not a painful price.

Dolce & Gabbana understands how to make women feel like women, so it’s worth checking out their range. The rose-spattered black and pink set, drawn here by David Downton, is almost good enough to sunbathe in — seems a shame to let it bloom unseen. At £68 for the bra and £42 for the knickers, it’s the most expensive of the pieces we’re showing but worth every penny. Check out the brand on www.figleaves.com. Finally, you’re going to need some pretty slippers for wafting about the honeymoon suite.
