Q My husband is loyal and caring but, after ten years together, I am finding myself a bit bored. We have fallen into a routine of looking after our children and home, and never seem to have fun. I recently met a man through work and there was mutual attraction. I don’t want to wreck my marriage or cause my husband and children any pain, but surely I am allowed a discreet fling that would make me feel less stir-crazy?

A No, no and no! Are you out of your mind? What kind of crazy woman thinks that it’s OK to dump on her husband because she’s feeling at a loose end?

Your husband isn’t merely “loyal and caring”, as you so scathingly put it.He is working at his relationship; he is being an adult.

You know, in Texas a tramp isn’t a homeless person, it’s a woman who will consider sleeping with someone on the basis of a couple of shared smiles over the water cooler.

I truly think that, if you are prepared to risk your marriage, cause your husband pain and upset your children’s stability for a man you hardly know, you have a much deeper problem than boredom.

To me, that sounds like borderline sex addiction and I would recommend counselling.

But it’s as easy to find a British person in group therapy as it is a vegan cowboy. So, until you are ready to face your problem yourself I will give you a couple of other things to chew on.

Have you ever considered that, if you’re bored, your poor husband probably is too?How about making life a bit more exciting for the two of you? Buy some sexy lingerie, book a babysitter and go away for the night.

And, honey, if that doesn’t work, get a hobby — gardening will make a mess only of your fingernails, not your marriage.
