Megan Fox, rising Hollywood starlet: “I think all the women in Hollywood are known as sex symbols. That’s what our purpose is in this business. You’re merchandise, you’re a product. You’re sold and it’s based on sex. But that’s OK. I think women should be empowered by it, not degraded.”
Aggggghhhhhhhh. What happened to intelligence, talent, hard work, entrepreneurial spirit and personality? And since when have we been “products”? Women don’t help themselves sometimes.

I’d like to add the M&S “Quality worth every penny” billboards now
littering Central London to your list. I find it hard to determine the exact
subject of this tagline — is it the 40ft-high decapitated and amputated
female torso to which it refers, or the gaudy pink underwear that this lump
of flesh is squeezed into? These adverts are offensive on so many levels
that it’s hard to know where to start, but one of the most shocking things,
perhaps, is that it’s provided by Marks & Spencer, which, with all
its proud boasts of ethics and sustainability as policy, seems to have left
its moral code at the door, in this regard.

A friend of mine who works in the engineering industry, having graduated with
a first for her masters degree, was giving a presentation on her company’s
newest advancement to some industry bigwigs. Less than five minutes in, the
biggest wig there, in the centre of the front row, put his hand up and asked
if she actually knew what she was talking about or if she was just the
looker. No one said anything in her defence.

I came across this on a night out in Plymouth. It made me feel sick. Bars and
clubs are like a cattle market, with all the men eyeing up the cattle to
choose which one is the best. They then go up to the one they’ve chosen and
grope them, and act as if the girl should be flattered.
I’m an 18-year-old girl and struggle with all the lads’ mags as I feel I look nothing like those girls and never will, so no guys are ever going to like me. I know it’s wrong, but it’s my immediate reaction whenever I see them.

My bugbear at the moment is the X Factor judges. Why is it that the male judges — Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh — seem to be quite acceptable wearing perfectly normal, sensible, casual clothes, whereas the female judges have to look as if they have just arrived at a Hollywood movie premiere?
