The last thing I bought online was a pizza a couple of days ago from Perfect Pizza. It’s literally five minutes walk from the office but it was a particularly busy day and it was very convenient. I do find that whatever I’m looking for, the solution is increasingly to be found online. I don’t always presume the price is better — I shop online as much for the convenience and being able to do it in my own time. I use expedia.com and lastminute.com for holidays, I buy tickets online with sites such as getmein.com and I love moonpig.com to make customised cards.

The net is a fantastic comparison tool, and it benefits both online shopping and the high street. We know that people use Amazon to find out about products and that they then may go on and buy it there or go to a shop.

One area to watch online is clothing. Amazon has just brought out its own clothing and shoes sites. There are already companies where you can design your own T-shirts and trainers. Now print-on-demand is happening, where you can find books that aren’t in print and have them printed, or have a book made about your surname and family history.

Shops will always exist alongside everything the net offers. Ordering a pizza helps to win back some time, but food is one of those things where it’s nice to have a wander around and see what’s there. I live in a nice market town and I enjoy going shopping with my family.
